The German Palaeography Study Day was first conceived of to provide training for a group of doctoral students working on eighteenth-century musicology topics at Queen's University Belfast. The one-day course, led by Dr Dorothea McEwan (Warburg Institute, London) provided a rare opportunity for the participants to become acquainted with the art of reading old German script. It attracted interest from scholars across Europe and accommodated the needs of postgraduate students and scholars with a diverse range of interests.
